Take the lead vocal out and keep a clean instrumental.
Upload a song and get the instrumental back, with the lead vocal removed and the rest of the production left intact.
This is not the old trick of flipping the phase and cancelling the centre, which takes the bass and the kick with it. The vocal is identified and removed as a source, so the low end stays where it belongs.
Key points
- Removes the lead vocal, keeps drums, bass and instruments intact.
- Full-length instrumental, time-aligned with the original.
- Better than phase cancellation, which also destroys the centre bass and kick.
- 1 token per run.
What it is good for
- Karaoke and live shows. Perform over the real production instead of a MIDI mock-up.
- Writing to a beat. Strip an existing topline so you can hear the instrumental underneath.
- Content and edits. Use an instrumental bed under video without the original vocal.
- Rehearsal. Let a singer practise against the actual arrangement.
What it costs
Vocal Remover costs 1 token per run. Tokens work across every tool, so one balance covers everything here. A Studio subscription at $19.99 a month includes a monthly allowance and the full engine alongside it.
Common questions
Will backing vocals be removed too?
This tool targets the lead and generally takes prominent backing vocals with it. If you specifically want the instrumental plus the harmonies, use the Karaoke / Performance Track Maker, which is built to keep backing vocals in place.
Why can I still hear a faint trace of the vocal?
Reverb and delay on a vocal spread across the whole mix and partly belong to the instrumental. A very wet vocal usually leaves a faint tail behind. A dry, modern pop vocal removes almost completely.
Does it damage the bass?
No. That is the failure mode of phase-cancellation vocal removers, which delete everything in the centre including kick and bass. This identifies the voice as a source and leaves the rest alone.
