Pitch correction for an isolated vocal, to the nearest note or to a key.

Correct the pitch of a vocal recording, either to the nearest semitone or locked to a specific key and scale so the correction follows the song rather than fighting it.

It is built for an isolated vocal. Give it a solo vocal track and it does careful, musical work.

Key points

  • Correct to the nearest note, or constrain to a key and scale.
  • Designed for a solo vocal, not a full mix.
  • Refuses layered vocals by default rather than making a mess of them.
  • 2 tokens per run.

Why it asks for an isolated vocal

Pitch correction works by tracking a single fundamental and moving it. When two or more voices sing different notes at once, there is no single fundamental to follow, and forcing one produces the warbling, metallic artefact everyone recognises as broken autotune.

So the tool detects layered vocals and declines rather than damaging them. If you genuinely want to process a stack anyway, there is an override. If you only have a full mix, run Acapella Extractor first and tune the result.

What it is good for

  • Tidying a good take. Fix the few notes that drift without re-recording.
  • The hard-tuned effect. Lock tightly to a key for a deliberate, modern sound.
  • Tightening harmonies. Tune each harmony pass separately so the stack sits together.
  • Demos. Make a scratch vocal presentable before anyone hears it.

What it costs

Auto-Tune costs 2 tokens per run. Tokens work across every tool, so one balance covers everything here. A Studio subscription at $19.99 a month includes a monthly allowance and the full engine alongside it.

Common questions

Should I set a key or use nearest note?

If you know the key, set it. Constraining to a key stops the corrector snapping a passing note to something outside the scale, which is the most common cause of a correction sounding wrong.

Can I run it on a full mix?

You should not. Pitch correction on a full mix will affect every instrument sharing that frequency range. Extract the vocal first, tune it, then place it back.

Will it sound robotic?

Only if you want it to. Gentle settings correct drift while leaving the vibrato and the character of the take alone.

  • Acapella Extractor (1 token) — Pull the vocal out on its own, clean enough to reuse.
  • De-esser (1 token) — Take the harshness off sibilance without dulling the vocal.
  • Noise Reducer (1 token) — Hum, hiss and room tone out, detail left alone.

Or let the engine do all of it.

This tool does one job. The engine does the whole record: separation, a mix, a master and the reasoning behind every decision.
